Displaying local variables

I test EPIC in debugging perl programs that use XML::DOM and TK. 
The programs are on Window XP environment.
At some point the debugger get stacked, all the CPU from the machine is
used and nothing move. I remove the PadWalker and the programs runs OK but
I can't display the  local variables.
There is any work-around to display the local variables withoth using PadWalker
or a way to solve the problem?
